Introduction

Benedict House is an emerging new community project in downtown Steubenville, OH, launching officially in the Fall of 2026. It is a house of study and prayer, paired with a neighborhood cultural center, all under the patronage of St. Benedict of Nursia and with a special devotion to the thought and life of Pope Benedict XVI/ Joseph Ratzinger. The day to day life is characterized by a small group of people working in a co-work space and praying together in the monastic schedule of the Rule of St. Benedict- ora et labora for the modern world. The multiple classrooms house seminars, discussions, and classes from inside and outside the Benedict House community, as well as double as meeting rooms. The sanctuary will welcome repeated liturgical events with local organizations, as well as other spiritual, intellectual, and artistic events, such as concerts, plays, and film nights. Benedict House is a Catholic project, ecumenical in scope, open to anyone with seeking with a desire for reality.

Location

We are in a vital and emerging area of downtown Steubenville, OH, near the business and residential revitalization efforts on either end of 4th Street, between the Sycamore Center and AIM, two collaborating projects, as well The College of St. Joseph the Worker and St. Peter's Parish. BH is part of a growing movement dedicated to making downtown a vital, flourishing, and walkable community, filled with thriving businesses and connected neighborhood relationships. All of the people working day to day in the BH are part of this broader neighborhood. As we transform this historic church and grounds, we look forward to connecting with the network of neighbors and projects nearby into a real front porch for the neighborhood.
